From the Collective
Here’s where you can catch up on everything happening with MWAC.
2025 Powderhorn Art Fair
On August 2nd & 3rd, MWAC participated in its first ever art fair in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We cannot say how proud we are to have helped represent 3 Muslim women artists at our booth. Visitors were able to participate in a block printing demonstration with Shafrin Islam, peruse beautifully made garments by Sown of the Earth (Brooke Swanson), and purchase MWAC goodies designed by Emma Ahmed.
We are happy to report that total sales for the Powderhorn Art Fair amounted to over $1,000!
We’re proud to support our artists in achieving their dreams by showcasing and selling their work, amplifying the voices of Muslim creatives, and raising funds for Heal Palestine—an organization providing vital physical and mental rehabilitation for refugees affected by the war in Palestine. We sold out of our fundraising stickers and are proud to announce our $60 donation to Heal Palestine.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and everyone who purchased artworks from our artists — it means more than you know!
2025 Cyanotype Party
On July 19 from 1–3 PM, artists Shafrin and Emma led participants through the art of creating cyanotypes—also known as sun prints—at the Rafter Apartments’ Makers Space on a beautifully sunny afternoon. Guests enjoyed delicious treats from Mi’aawaa Bakery as they selected plants and arranged their materials to create stunning resistance prints. After rinsing their work, the magic of the process revealed itself: areas exposed to sunlight turned a rich blue, while the shadows remained crisp white (2nd image, above). We were so happy to meet new artist Muslimahs and make art with them.
